PRINCETON — The Princeton Elementary School Board conducted the following business at its Jan. 25 meeting at Logan Junior High:

• Heard from Logan Principal J.D. Orwig who gave an overview of the Explore test taken by eighth-graders. In every curricular area tested, Logan students tested above the national average, Orwig said. The Explore test also sets benchmarks as predictors to show whether students are on track to meet a college-level curriculum. According to the test, 28 percent of Logan students were predicted to be on track for college-level curriculum in science, which may seem like a low number, but the national average was at only 10 percent, Orwig said.

The predictors are based on exposure received at the eighth-grade level. The college-level exposure comes at the high school level, Orwig said.

After Orwig’s presentation, the board discussed the analysis of various tests and the need to work with Princeton High School in setting curriculum to make students successful in school.

• Approved committee assignments as follows: Steve Bouslog and Doris Hamilton to the Finance Committee; George Kauffman and Terry O’Neil to the Building Committee; Egan Hicks and Hamilton to the Transportation Committee; O’Neil and Judd Lusher to Negotiations Committee; and Paul Stephens and Lusher to the Communications Committee.

• Approved maintaining the book rental fee for the 2010-11 school year at the current $40.

• Approved the retirement of teacher Pam Gutshall for June 2010.

• Approved a Douglas building permit in the amount of $30,000 for emergency boiler work.

• Commended Logan student Ryan Jensen for his Dare To Dream competition.

• Approved moving the regular February board meeting site to Logan’s west gym in order to accommodate a book fair held in the Logan library.
