PRINCETON — It had to be nice to play somebody without the words Mendota written across their jersey. After two losses to Mendota in three days, the Princeton Tigresses came out to post a 63-38 win over the visiting Henry-Senachwine Lady Mallards Monday at Prouty Gym. C.J. Rhodes led the Tigresses with 13 points, 11 in the second half, and Jasmine Kunkel added 11 points to lead the Tigresses to victory. “We moved the ball around and they sit in a zone. I thought we did a pretty good job,” PHS coach Spencer Davis said. “We got everyone in and everyone played well. We played pretty good team basketball. (It was a) Monday night game; it’s nice to win one of those.” Rhodes hit a 3 to give PHS a 40-22 lead at the 5:01 mark in the third quarter. She hooped again before two buckets by senior Lacey Jensen. A putback by senior center Katie Click made it 50-30 at quarter’s end. Rhodes scored the Tigresses first two baskets of the fourth quarter for a 54-32 lead. After a Henry hoop, the Tigresses tallied the final nine points of the game, including a drive by Katlin Petersen, a free throw by Amber Ruter, a jumper and a putback by Audra Ackerman and a basket by Allie Youngren. Kyla Walczak led Bri Pienta’s Lady Mallards with 11 points and Claire Voss added nine. Mendota 67, Princeton 63: PHS fell to Mendota for the second time in three days in a make-up game Saturday in Mendota. The Tigresses made several runs at the Lady Trojans, but fell short in NCIC Lincoln play. Rhodes led PHS with 15 points and Petersen added 13 and Jasmine Kunkel 11. Brianne Blumhorst led Mendota (14-10, 4-4) with 23 points, while Lauren Kellen had 15. • Tiger tales: The Tigresses will take a break from practice Tuesday to get some team bonding in at the bowling alley. Their next game will be Thursday at Kewanee, leading into regional play next Monday at home vs. Hall. Comment on this story at www.bcrnews.com. Comments
