Boy Scouts celebrate 100 yearsPEORIA — The W. D. Boyce Council, Boy Scouts of America will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America on Monday with a press conference and a birthday celebration open house for all scouters, past and present. The day will also mark the beginning of the Heroes of Scouting campaign and a year long celebration of the 100th anniversary. The press conference will begin at 11 a.m. at the Peoria Service Center located at 614 N. E. Madison Ave. The Birthday Celebration Open House will run from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Peoria Service Center as well as at the Bloomington Service Center, located at 203 E. Locust in Bloomington. Heroes of Scouting is a media campaign developed around the celebration of the 100 years of scouting and will recognize five local heroes who attribute the success in their lives to the skills and characteristics scouting has instilled in them. Jim McConoughey, president/CEO of the Heartland Partnership, serves as the 100th anniversary chair for the council and will unveil the first two heroes at the press conference at 11 a.m. on Monday. A presentation of each of the heroes’ media campaigns will immediately follow as presented by Marc Burnett, cirector of marketing and sales at Peoria Civic Center, who serves as the council’s vice president of marketing.
