KidLit spaghetti fundraiser a success

PRINCETON — Dozens of plates of spaghetti and garlic bread were served by members of the Princeton KidLit Committee at Italian Express on Feb. 21. More than 100 people came out to support the fundraiser, some unknowingly, by buying all-you-can-eat spaghetti, garlic bread, and a drink for $6. “I was shooting for 100 people,” said KidLit Foundation president LuAnn Salz. “We met that goal and then some. I’m very happy.” In addition to the meal, there was also a bake sale. Some of the baked goods were donated by the Princeton Public Schools Foundation from their Trivia Night the day before. “We would like to thank everyone at Italian Express for their help and generosity,” said KidLit Board Member Chad Brokaw. “They provided a great way for us to raise some money and awareness for KidLit.”

Members of the Princeton KidLit Committee that helped serve were: Kathy Ballard, Ben Atkinson, Susan Morris, Angela Dunlap, Salz, and Brokaw. Several other members of the committee pre-sold tickets before the event.

The next fundraiser for Princeton KidLit will be Trivia Night 2 on April 10 at the Princeton Elks Club. For more information, visit www.princetonkidlit.org/events/trivia-night-2.

The KidLit Foundation is being formed as a non-profit entity to get new books into the hands of Bureau County children who couldn’t otherwise afford them.

Princeton KidLit is presented by KidLit Foundation in cooperation with the Princeton Public Library and the Prairie Arts Council.

Princeton KidLit was formed by a few of the Festival 9 3/4 committee members that oversaw festivities and events that brought in over 18,000 people to Princeton over the span of four years. Festival 9 3/4 was a book release event for the Harry Potter book series and was put on in Princeton from 2005 to 2008.
