Three teens arrested in SV burglary

SPRING VALLEY — Three Spring Valley residents have been arrested after a weekend break-in incident in the 100 block of East Seventh Street in Spring Valley.

Nineteen-year-old Herbert M. Alonzo, a 14-year-old Spring Valley boy, and a 16-year-old Spring Valley boy face multiple charges for the Saturday incident.

In a press release issued Monday, Spring Valley Police Chief Kevin Sangston said a female resident called 9-1-1 at 5:33 a.m. Saturday to report three males had broken into her residence. The males had forced open the rear door of the home, while the resident was sleeping. The resident awoke when she heard voices in her kitchen and then confronted the three males in her kitchen. The three males fled after the female brandished a kitchen knife and yelled.

As the resident was on the phone with the police dispatcher, the males returned to the rear porch of the home. The female yelled at them again, and the males fled again.

Sangston said the suspects were apprehended a block away by responding officers. The Peru Police Department assisted at the scene. Alonzo and the juveniles were taken to the Bureau County Jail.

Alonzo is charged with residential burglary and burglary to a motor vehicle. The 14-year-old boy was charged with residential burglary and burglary to a motor vehicle. The 16-year-old boy was also charged with residential burglary and burglary to a motor vehicle, as well as criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and criminal damage to a motor vehicle.

During the interview process, the 16-year-old male implicated himself in other recent crimes, resulting in the criminal damage to property charge and the criminal trespass to a motor vehicle charge.

The three males are believed to have also entered other vehicles on March 4.

The investigation continues.
