February 8, 2010 PRINCETON — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will hold its business meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the post home, 1549 W. Peru St. in Princeton. The Unit will continue to go over the standing rules and discuss the new ones needed to be put into place. Members should bring copies of the standing rules that were sent a couple of months ago. Only a few copies will be available at the meeting. Auxiliary workshop PRINCETON — Children from the Princeton Community After School Program will participate in the Youth Service Bureau’s “Art from the Heart” event. The Ladd After School Program is also participating in the auction as well. Residents and staff at Orchard View Rehab and Healthcare supported the American Heart Association by wearing red on Go Red for Women Day on Feb. 5. The idea behind wearing red was to raise awareness for women and heart disease. When Illinois Valley Cellular implemented its “Charity Begins At Home” program, CEO Tom Walsh envisioned empowering the company’s customers in ventures to raise funds — and awareness — for the many charities in their service area. However, the latest fundraising effort went above and beyond his expectations. Bureau County United Way’s Christmas for Kids Toy Drive served 380 Bureau County children this year. February 3, 2010 PEORIA — The W. D. Boyce Council, Boy Scouts of America will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America on Monday with a press conference and a birthday celebration open house for all scouters, past and present. The day will also mark the beginning of the Heroes of Scouting campaign and a year long celebration of the 100th anniversary. The press conference will begin at 11 a.m. at the Peoria Service Center located at 614 N. E. Madison Ave. The Birthday Celebration Open House will run from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Peoria Service Center as well as at the Bloomington Service Center, located at 203 E. Locust in Bloomington. January 29, 2010 Public H1N1 clinic Bureau Valley South Junior High students held a bake sale during the month of December to help raise money for the Sheffield Public Library “Furnace Fund.” Students were allowed to bring a can of pop to the library and purchase a treat. The students raised $60. An additional $20 was raised through the sale of Chestnut Inn cookbooks bringing the total raised to $80. PRINCETON — The crime of teen dating violence, including physical, emotional and sexual assault, and harassment via texting, e-mail or Instant Messaging is a cruel reality for many American teenagers — a reality of which many parents are unaware. It is for this reason Freedom House offers free violence prevention education programs for teens in Bureau, Henry, Marshall, Putnam and Stark counties and, just recently, sponsored a poster contest to promote awareness. |
