Mr. Emmett's letter expresses an ethic which is more pagan than theologically Christian. He sees abortion as "evil" (as is his right), but Jesus was reported to say in His Sermon on the Mount: "But I tell you, do not resist an evil person." That said, a letter is but a letter and he is not strong-arming anyone by writing it. It is only faint resistence. One can only hope that he is never put in a position where his vote against abortion goes against Jesus's plain words.

Because online posting is anonymous, the shelter can’t respond to your criticism. If you feel you were treated unfairly, please email us so that we can review the situation.Typically, we invite dog owners, wishing to adopt a cat, to bring their dog into the shelter and spend time with the cat, one-on-one; this is not fail-safe, as dogs frequently behave differently in the “territory” of their home, but it is a responsible effort to ensure the safety of both animals.Adopters are advised on methods of integrating a new pet into the household.FOS wants happy endings for all concerned.

formerbulldog regarding Illinois legislative districts:
The jigsaw puzzle
i support an elimination of the politically manipulated districts. However at the same time the new maps should be created to make sure that districts cover a wide range of demographics. Reps should cover both urban areas and rural areas, wealthy and poor, agricultural and industrial, etc. as much as possible. This way hopefully they will legislate for all of the people in state and not just one group or interest. To do this the shapes might still be odd looking, but hopefully the district shapes would no longer be politically motivated.

333life4u, i think you used the same 4 words to write that whole paragraph. abortion, murder, sin, wrong. next time use a thesaurus.

Living in Reality regarding Putback Amendment is for our common good
You had me until the last paragraph. Before I'll commit now, I'd want to do a LOT more research (i.e., read the bill in its entirety).

I have to agree with bs37, the use of the letter column for a debate that can never be solved through rhetorical discussion is a waste of your ink and our time. How about a moratorium on the abortion letters so that we can get to something less inflammatory like clubbing baby seals as a sport for the next Olympics.

I like the idea ... but also suggest that the property tax income projections be explored further at the state level. The reason is that quite a few years ago Commonwealth Edison won a case whereby its enormous nuclear generator in Zion was declared to be "equipment" rather than "real property." This made it property-tax exempt.

abortion is murder of an ubborn child. Anyone who does not understand this is wrong. Abortion is wrong, and at all cases is mortal sin. The affect of moral sin is blindness. It is always wrong to kill. If you want to understand, you need God amd need to pray and ask God to enlighten your mind. Abortion is always wrong and is killing an innocent child. Society is affected by the sins of people who do mortal sin, and abortion should be ended in all cases.

looie111 regarding What do you think about the Tiger Woods’ situation?
tiger woods hurt his family and himself. however, he will come back and he will be cheered loudly again. comparing tiger to people in the movie business: where do you find more infidelity ,unfaithfullness, and just plain jumping in and out of beds than in the movie business? yet, in 2009,in the middle of a recession,Hollywood set a record take at the box office. people spent over 10 billion dollars to watch these idiots in the movies. unreal...

Till the rules change I will not help. I didnt want a kitten to be outdoors. I wanted it for indoor cat for my daughter. I was turned down because I had a dog that was unacceptable to your shelters rules. Some of us do care and we take very good care of our animals and to be told we dont conform to your rules but yet I see all the begging for help and money and truly it makes me sick when you are turning away good loving homes.
