PRINCETON — The host Tigresses came out with their foot on the gas, racing out to an 11-2 lead in the first three minutes, and stayed in the driver’s seat, never trailing as they secured a 58-45 win over Hall in opening round Class 2A regional action.

PRINCETON — Joe Ruklick and the Princeton Tigers went to the Sweet Sixteen State Tournament in 1954 and made it back it the next year to land a fourth-place finish in the one-class format.
The Princeton Tigers will try to weather the Storm Tuesday night at the Storm Cellar at Bureau Valley High School.

EUREKA — Three Bruins kept their wrestling postseason alive Saturday at the Eureka 1A Regional, as senior Dan Rucinski (23-3) captured the 160-pound title, junior Dave Young posted a silver medal effort in the 135-pound bracket, and senior Steve Puhr claimed third at 152 pounds. The Academy trio will next head to this weekend’s sectional competition in Clinton.
PRINCETON — The final registration date for the Princeton Youth Soccer spring season will be held  at the Prouty Building from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Registration info can be found by going to www.pyslsoccer.freehomepage.com and clicking on the spring 2010 registration tab. This spring’s season will run from April 5 through May 15. 
LaMoille/Ohio didn’t score in the first quarter of Monday’s 1A regional opener against host Serena. Then sophomore Aubrey Molln came in and got them going.

PRINCETON — The last time Joe Ruklick saw his alma mater play, the Princeton Tigers didn’t play so well, falling to Winnebago in the 2009 supersectional game in DeKalb. This time around, the outcome was more favorable for everyone.

STERLING – With just over two minutes left in the third quarter Friday night, the Bureau Valley Storm had seen its five-point halftime lead evaporate into a 37-33 deficit at the hands of a 12-3 Newman Comet run. Austin Peterson then dropped three-pointers on four consecutive trips up the floor to give his team a 45-37 lead at the end of the third quarter, on its way to a 64-56 win.

The road to postseason success and a regional title plaque for area girls 2A basketball squads will run through Princeton’s Prouty Gymnasium as the host Tigresses entertain a regional field that includes Bureau Valley, Hall, Mendota and St. Bede. In Class 1A play LaMoille/Ohio will head to Serena, and DePue will head to the Wyoming Regional.

PERU — It was not always pretty, especially in the first half when both teams combined to score a total of 21 points, but a down to the wire finish more than made up for it as the Lady Bruins of St. Bede held on to post a one point, 34-33, victory over the visiting Lady Devils of Hall Tuesday night.

PERU — A 15-0 run spanning the end of first half and the opening of the third quarter from the host Bruins put Tuesday night’s contest against their Route 6 rivals from Hall, at the Academy, out of reach, as the Bruins rode out a 64-54 win to cap off a boys-girls varsity doubleheader in front of a packed house.
At Princeton: Lydia Stephens had 11 points and Keyenna Altizer nine for Princeton Logan seventh-graders in a 25-8, 25-10 win over LaSalle Lincoln. In the eighth-grade match, Michelle Kelly had 10 points and Rebecca Hult (6) in Logan’s 25-10, 25-16 win.
SPRING VALLEY — Hall High School senior Nick Rounds will sign a letter of intent to play golf for IVCC next fall on Thursday morning. He is a two-time BCR Golfer of the Year. Later this month, Princeton senior Jacquie Kane will sign to continue playing volleyball for Lincoln Junior College.

Princeton and Hall may be on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the NCIC Lincoln boys’ basketball standings, but that doesn’t mean Jesse Brandt and the Tigers will overlook their friendly rivals from Spring Valley.
Newark’s Kyle Anderson took the opening tip and put down a slam dunk just five seconds into Tuesday’s quarterfinal game against LaMoille/Ohio in the Little Ten Tournament at Somonauk. It all went downhill fast for the Lions after that.

The Princeton girls’ soccer program made big strides this decade, growing from a fledgling program to a powerhouse state contender. Since opening play in 2001, the Tigresses have amassed a 105-54-11 record under coach Ed Young, and made back-to-back trips to the state tournament in 2006 and 2007. Coming to stay at the old Covenant Children’s Home in Princeton in the early 1950s could have been unsettling for any 11-year-old boy, forced to live away from his family when his mother developed tuberculosis. But what was supposed to be a short stay lasted five years, turning out to the best thing for the young boy.
